Moon Over Mountains Celestial Counterpart Diptych

Two panels of moon phases over a mountain range, hand-cut from two tonally distinct hardwoods, maple and black-stained Baltic birch. No gaps, no overlap — every shape's edge is another shape's edge, all the way to the border. The medium is 17th-century marquetry; the symbolism is ancient and eternal.

The design evokes a feeling of oneness with nature, delivered in all-natural materials. The wood grain of the interlocking hardwood panels speaks to the celestial and primordial imagery of the counterpart motif.

Wood palette. Built from two species: maple (the cream field) and black-stained birch (the black). Each is chosen for tone, grain, and how it reads at eye level. Together, they turn the pattern into something both graphic and warm — modern art with the depth of real wood behind it.

Dimensions.

  • 7" × 5" panels — overall 14" × 5" when hung as a pair
  • 10" × 8" panels — overall 20" × 8" when hung as a pair
  • 16" × 12" panels — overall 32" × 12" when hung as a pair

Sold as a diptych. When the two panels are hung side-by-side, the design mirrors across both panels — two mirrored images doubling the visual field. Each panel can also stand alone, since the pattern completes within its own borders.

Materials. Hand-selected hardwood veneers on a solid wood substrate, sourced from an FSC-certified supplier committed to responsibly managed forests. Precisely laser-cut and inlaid by hand. Finished with Odie's Oil, a non-toxic hardwax that deepens the grain and lasts for generations.

Made to order in the Flower & Fang studio in Seattle by Jack Danger. Shipped directly to you or sent as a gift on your behalf — leave a note at checkout with any special instructions.

Care. Wipe clean with a soft dry cloth. Avoid prolonged direct sunlight and high humidity. A light re-oil every year or two with any food-safe wood conditioner will keep the grain lively.
